Hi everyone!

I have an excerpt I’m working on for Chapter 4. I also added a picture I drew at the end, which shows some facts about the book series Wings of Fire.

~Chapter 4~

She saw multicolored fur. Yellow eyes with slit pupils, blazing with fury. A rough warning growl and an ominous hiss.

“Well, well, well. If it isn’t the mighty River of the Sun, Alpha of Sunlight pack and blah, blah, blah!” The rival wolf snarled. “Owl!” Riversun barked in surprise. Owl snickered. “Oh, don’t act so shocked,” she said, “you know very well that you’re in my territory, trying to sneak past me, with some random loner!” She growled that last word particularly loudly, and she flattened her ears and started prowling towards them. Hunter grimaced.

“And don’t bother trying to escape,” she hissed. She flicked her tail at the bushes around them. “You’re surrounded by my scouts, and there’s no way you can get yourselves out of this.” Suddenly, almost on cue, about five other wolves sprang out from within the trees, some smirking while others bared their teeth threateningly. Riversun gasped, and Hunter let out a rumbling growl. Owl stopped, keeping her distance from the fierce loner.

Hi guys! In this additional paragraph, I’m going to be telling you a little bit about Wings of Fire. If you haven’t read it, it’s about how dragons live, in their point of view. The author is Tui T. Sutherland.

So, for today, I’m going to be talking about specifically SkyWings. You might be wondering what a SkyWing is. They are a tribe, and more include Mudwings, SeaWings, and RainWings. The SkyWings are a tribe of dragons that live in the mountains. Some of their abilities include breathing fire and large wings for long-distance flying. Their coloring mainly ranges from dark reds to light yellowy-orange. Above in the image, I’ve added tendrils of smoke all over her body — usually, a regular SkyWing only breathes smoke through its nose when angry — but sometimes, a SkyWing is born with too much fire, causing them to have very hot scales. By “very hot”, I mean that they burn whatever they touch, such as Peril up in the drawing. She is a dragon with those burning scales, most commonly called firescales.

A little information about Peril —

She was formerly the queen’s champion in the fighting arena in the Sky Kingdom. For the past few years, five dragonets and their guardians have been hiding under a mountain, awfully close to the menacing Queen Scarlet’s palace. When the dragonets (the Dragonets of Destiny, born to fulfill a prophecy) get captured, they’re dragged off to fight in the arena with their wings bound.

When Peril talks to one of them instead of hurting him, they become friends. The dragonet, a MudWing named Clay, tells her that life doesn’t have to be like this… fighting just for the queen’s thrill… allied with one of the most vicious queens on the entire continent of Pyrrhia… still, Peril is unsure. and when Scarlet’s ally comes to visit, one of Clay’s friends is about to be taken away. He asks Peril to help save his friend, but she doesn’t know if it is right. Would the be betraying her queen if she helped him… of betraying her friend if she turned him in? Find out more in the first book: The Dragonets of Destiny.

I would definitely recommend Wings of Fire to people (maybe around the 8–10 age range to begin) who are interested in dragons and magic.

Thanks for reading this week’s post! I’ll also try to add more Wings of Fire/ book-and-art posts as updates. Don’t forget, the next part of the 4th chapter will come out soon!
